Rome from the Photographs Suite

$12.00

This piece, a solo for trumpet with flugelhorn trio, is inspired by a picture taken from the top of the cupola at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. The picture is a bird’s eye view of Rome. The ancient ruins are seen against the horizon, illuminated by a foggy sunbeam. It’s an image of old and new living in harmony. The way the sun seems to purposefully spotlight the ruins implies a natural spirituality. The light is almost highlighting the essence and core of the grand city. The solo trumpet line embodies this character—spiritual and grand, symbolizing a gentle strength.
